Fairmont — Gazebo
2004 · Bordercommunity
It was one of those very few records where I exactly remember when I heard it for the first time. It was the day before I had to do knee surgery. In my rooftop room, where electronic music played pretty much all day. My ambitions for becoming a decent soccer player were shredded and surgery was the only option to at least be able to do everything as an adult. Then I heard this jewel of a tune, "Gazebo" – one of James Holden's Bordercommunity label's best releases of all time, and the signature track of Fairmont. I was smiling when hearing it for the first time, goosebumps everywhere, and the feeling remained. When I left the door next morning approaching the hospital it still resonated with me, and crazy as it is, in the hospital after surgery I was craving to go back home to hear this fantastic tune again. In Spotify days no one can imagine how we "CD guys" did it. Much has been written about the track ever since, so not much needed to add aside from the above feeling: a great track wants you to return to it over and over again.
